01 / ABOUT THE GAME

A classic worth discovering

Who it is for

Omaha suits poker players who enjoy evaluating many draws and combinations. It is approachable for Hold'em players, but the four-card start and exact two-card rule reward careful hand reading.

Where it is popular

Omaha has a strong tradition in Europe and is also a mainstream online and United States poker format, commonly regarded as the next major variant after Texas Hold'em.

Why it is fun

Four private cards create more connected draws and stronger final hands than Hold'em, while the requirement to use exactly two of them makes every board a satisfying combination puzzle.

04 / HOW TO PLAY

Start your next game

  1. 01

Each player receives four private hole cards. Five community cards are then dealt as the flop, turn, and river, with betting before the flop and after each board stage.

  2. 02

At showdown, every Omaha hand must use exactly two hole cards and exactly three community cards to make a five-card hand. You cannot play only one hole card or simply use the whole board.

  3. 03

In Omaha High, the highest-ranked five-card poker hand wins the pot. Because four hole cards create many combinations, a hand that looks strong may still be behind a better draw or made hand.

  4. 04

In Omaha Hi-Lo, the pot can split between the best high hand and a qualifying low made from five different ranks of eight or lower. If no low qualifies, the high hand wins the entire pot.

  5. 05

A Hi-Lo player may use different two-card combinations for the high and low hands, but each hand must still use exactly two hole cards and three board cards. One player can win both halves, known as scooping.
